The co-founding sisters sit down for a short reflection on the brand and what it means to them.
Who’s older who’s younger? (CW)
So I’m the oldest, Rosanna is four years younger despite being about four inches taller!
Why did you create Otiumberg? (RW)
Christie and I have always been close and share an entrepreneurial spirit that naturally drove us to collaborate on the creation of Otiumberg. We’ve always been drawn to the longevity and sentimentality of jewellery, and from the moment Christie created our first huggie hoop, we knew this would be the industry for us. We had multiple piercings at the time and were frustrated with the inaccessibility of fine jewellery, the pieces we really wanted to wear, and the poor quality of the fashion pieces we could realistically afford. We knew there must be another way and that’s why we decided to create Otiumberg.
How do you work together as sisters? (RW)
It’s actually much easier than people assume. The benefit of being sisters is that we have an inherent understanding of each other. We share such a clear combined vision for the brand and rarely does one of us make a decision or move that the other is not in agreement with. It’s also been helpful coming from backgrounds with complimentary skill sets such as we do (Christie worked at Louis Vuitton and Burberry, whereas Rosanna comes from a background in branding and the arts) as this allows us to hold unique contributions and roles within the brand, rather than competing or getting on top of one another.
"Our design ethos is to create meaningful keep-forever pieces with a contemporary edge; pieces that become the building block of your everyday look. Each piece from the Collection can be effortlessly layered and stacked together. It’s that everyday elegance we are all about."
What’s your approach to design with Otiumberg? (CW)
Our design ethos is to create meaningful keep-forever pieces with a contemporary edge; pieces that become the building block of your everyday look. Each piece from the Collection can be effortlessly layered and stacked together. It’s that everyday elegance we are all about. As we evolve and grow as creatives, our design evolves with us. For example, Christie recently became a mother which led to the design of our signature name bracelets where each piece is made to be worn as a daily reminder of the people you love the most.
Who do you have in mind when you design – who is the Otiumberg wearer? (RW)
Otiumberg is a natural extension of who we are and we never launch a piece that we ourselves would not be happy or proud to wear. Our community is so diverse and we love that. We want our jewellery to be worn and reimagined by all and I think that’s the beauty in the simplicity of Otiumberg pieces.
You mention Community, how did you manage to foster such a loyal base? (CW)
Community is really at the heart of our brand and it’s purpose. What started as us shooting our friends, has lead to a growing community of women we have met throughouht the years, loved, and brought into the brand. We have always believed in creating a diverse and real representation of women with our brand. Coming from luxury consumer backgrounds, we saw the amount of photoshopping and editing that
